Alhamazad the Wise is a powerful human wizard of Baklunish descent, and one of the newest members of the Circle of Eight.
Description
In his old age, Alhamazad has become somewhat infirm.[2] Alhamazad doesn't have an abode or building in which he lives (as he is a mendicant), he does consider Zeif his home, though he was born in Kofeh in Ekbir.
He is known to venerate Istus, Lady of Fate.[1][2]
Appearance
Alhamazad is an elderly Baklunish man who walks with a limp. He dresses in plain robes and covers his shaved head with a simple turban. Most of the time, his appearance is very unassuming, and observers would assume he is a beggar or an outcast and most people pay him little mind.<ref62Rot8 />
In Living Greyhawk Journal #0, Alhamazad is described thus:
{quote|Alhamazad’s appearance is elderly: he is thin, frail, and walks with a pronounced limp. The mage sports a decorated beard and typically wears the plain robes of a Baklunish mendicant, donning a simple turban atop his shaved pate. He supports himself with a staff and avoids melee at all costs. Alhamazad speaks the common tongue with a thick accent but, is fluent in a dozen languages. He is shy and retiring in the company of others, particularly foreigners such as easterners, whom he finds clamorous. Alhamazad is a known expert in the fields of summoning and elemental magicks. He is known to associate with noble elementals and is an expert on geniekind.
Personality
In his youth, Alhamazad was a bit of a firebrand and rebel.[1]
As he aged, he became increasingly customary in his disposition and religious belief, becoming unfailingly polite and hospitable.[2]

Possessions
As a mendicant, Alhamazad owns or carries truly little. He only keeps the most spartan of things with him, and disdains temporal belongings.[2]

Alhamazad is a good friend of Mordenkainen, whom he has known for over twenty years.[1]
He is wary of Drawmij and holds great antipathy for Warnes Starcoat.
"Alhamazad has ties to sorcerers far to the west, across the Dry Steppes and beyond the Dramidj Ocean. ...in lands with a strong Oriental flavor."[2]
Kermin Mind-Bender of the Boneheart once served as Alhamazad's apprentice, but the two are now enemies.[1]
History
When Alhamazad was an age for apprenticeship or education, he was sent to Ekbir to enter civil service. He performed his duties for the caliph's court.[1]
His aptitude for magic was discovered early on while in public service, and he was sent to study magic at the Zashassar of Ekbir. He was possessed of a youthful recalcitrance, though, and he left before he was entirely trained, but he was a free mage and perfectly capable for his age.[1]
Throughout his life, Alhamazad traveled the Baklunish lands quite extensively, including the lands of the Tiger Nomads, Ull, Yatils, Mounds of Dawn, Pinnacles of Azor'alq, and even sailed the Dramidj Ocean.
Alhamazad eventually served all manner of various emirs, pashas, etc.
He became a member of the Circle of Eight in 585 CY.[3]
