Karasten Malldraith is a learned scholar who is known for specializing in lore of the Thillonrian people.
Description
Appearance
Karasten walks with a staff to support himself, and seems quite old (in his 80s). However, this is, in fact, a ruse. He has used potions of longevity and is in his 60s. But, he plays the part and acts older and more forgetful than he is to make people think he's inattentive. The staff he walks with is unnecessary and is used to make himself look feeble. The persona he presents is carefully crafted and maintained to hide his actual power.[1]

Possessions
Karasten keeps a fairly unique bag of holding. It has a magic mouth spell which will "scream if anyone other than Karasten touches the bag."[2]
Other general magic items Karasten has been known to employ include: Dagger +2, +3 vs. Large creatures, bracers of defense, ring of protection + 1, ring of warmth, wand of fire, and a whirling iridescent ioun stone (allows Karasten to be sustained without air).[1][2]

Works
Karasten transcribed the work of an anonymous author in 542 CY called the Skkelf Ala Saga. It is a written retelling of "an ancient oral tradition from the Land of the Ice Barbarians." It's the tale of two lovers facing a troll shaman who puts a curse upon the hero, Skkelf, to prevent him from marrying his intended bride.[13]
