The Age of Glory is a name given to the period of time in which the Suloise Imperium flourished. The term appears in the folklore of Suloise expatriates and their descendants in the Flanaess.[1]

History

The exact beginning of the Age of Glory is ambiguous. It may be considered to have begun in the year -5515 CY (1 SD), beginning an era when the great realms of the Flannae and Baklunish peoples also flourished. However, the term is usually applied in a historical context to refer to in the context of the grand achievements of the Suel, much of whose history is lost to time, making an exact start date difficult to specify.

An early bound appears in a letter penned by the archmage Mordenkainen in Coldeven 570 CY, in which he states that the sealing away of the dark god Tharizdun occurred prior to the Age of Glory.[2] Tharizdun's banishment took place in an age long past by all the gods of Oerth working in unison.[3]

The Age of Glory was considered to have reached its height some sixty years before the end of the Suloise Imperium. At this time, both the Suloise Imperium and Baklunish Empire ruled over vast territories and possessed mythic levels of cultural development and decadence. The level of technology and resources available to both nations seemed unbelievable and truly fantastical to peoples of the subsequent era. The Suloise Mages of Power possessed such mastery of arcane magic that they were able to re-shape reality to their whims.[4]

The Age of Glory definitively ended in -422 CY (5094 SD) with the utter destruction of the Suel Imperium.[1] Growing conflict between the Suel and Baklunish Empire led the Mages of Power to unleash the Invoked Devastation, which destroyed the entire Baklunish Empire. Surviving Baklunish mage-priests retaliated with the Rain of Colorless Fire, which reduced the entire Suel Imperium to ash.[4] While many refugees from each empire survived, they no longer possessed the incredible levels of technology or culture, such that the Age of Glory had come to an end.
