Chathold is a city at the mouth of the Harp River, where it flows west into Relmor Bay, in what was once the Prelacy of Almor, just past what later became the border between the Nyrondese Almorian Protectorate and The Kingdom of Ahlissa.
History
On the 17th of Goodmonth in 584 CY, mages sent by the Overking Ivid V razed the city to the ground using various forms of magic, including fire, acid, lightning, earth tremors, and poisonous gas, among others. This was known as the Day of Dust, and was the start of a further campaign that pushed into Nyrond during the Greyhawk Wars. More than 5,000 people died during the attack.
In the years after its destruction, Cathold became a ruin, stalked by roaming fiends. Priests of Nerull were drawn by the stench of death. Black robed priests of Incabulos have begun to pick over the ruins and animate thousands of corpses that raid as far south as Goldbolt. Orcs,other humanoids and bandits from Aerdy have taken up living nearby, though they seem to be affected mentally by proximity to the ruins. There is an evil aura that eminates off the place, which causes a -4 penalty on any save against malign (reversed) necromantic spells [1]. Reverse healing spells such as inflic wounds always do maximum damage, and undead act as if a priest of six levels lower tried to turn them. Speak with dead has a 50% chance (less 1% per point of wisdom of the spellcaster) of driving the cleric insane. [1].

There are said to be a number of powerful relics from priests of Good-aligned deities that the Overking's army didn't bother to loot still hidden in the ruins. [1]
