Beverages
All the following beverages are found in the World of Greyhawk™, though this list is comprehensive, it is not necessarily a definitive one.
Non-alcoholic beverages
- Coffee[1] (see also: kaffet below)
- Juice
- Milk[2][3]—cow's milk and goat's milk[4] (including cream[5][6][7], whipped cream,[8], and whey[9])
- Tea[1][2][10][11][12] (incl. roanwood tea[13] and blackberry tea[14])
Alcoholic beverages
General types of alcohol
Spirits[15] and liquors[16] are commonly made by individual brewers, along with other alcoholic beverages. There are also large groups like the Free City Guild of Ostlers and Brewers.
- Ale—technically a type of beer, but very frequently mentioned separately, often noted as "local" or "special" ales[17][18][19][20]
- Beer—both "small" and "heavy" beers exist in the Flanaess (lower and higher alcohol by volume)[17][18][19][20]
- Brandy—distilled in many places, "local" and "special" varieties[17][20][21]
- Rum[22]
- Liqueur[17][20][5] and fortified liqueur[15]
- Mead—while most every mead brewed in a different place or by a different brewer tastes different, there are also "special brew" meads (which are more expensive).[17][20]
- Wine—including mulled and fortified wines; often noted as a "local" or "table" varieties[17][18][19][20][5][15]
- Whiskey[23][24]
Unnamed or unbranded alcoholic beverages
The following are "types" of alcohol which are not given a specific "name". (i.e. similar to saying "German white wine" or similar)
- "Almond-flavored drink" from the Caliphate of Ekbir.[25]
- Assassin berry wine—wine made from the fruit of the assassin vine.[26][27][28][29]
- Berry wine[30]
- Caporna wine[31]
- Celenese nectarwine—a "type" of drink. One rare variety is a "heady, effervescent brew of violet color" made of moonberries picked "when both moons are blue". (see also: "Gauglathiir" below, another variety)[17][25][32][33][34][35]
- Celenese green wine—served cool or chilled[36] (see also: "Gauglathiir" below)
- Celene ruby wine—contrasted by Iriador (see below)[17][20]
- Celanese wine—a fine, sweet wine with a heady aroma[37]
- Dandelion wine—found in the Yeomanry and surrounding nations[38]
- Elven mead—made with exotic wild honey; even liked by some dwarves[39]
- Elven wine[40]
- Feywine—fermented mixture of nectar created from juice of crushed flowers, honey, and a secret ingredient some claim is distilled moonbeams[41]
- Furyondian emerald pale wine[17][20]
- Furyondian white wine—dry, crisp, and apple-fragranced wine[42] (See also Ambiere, below)
- Galdafruit brandy—commonly made in many places; notably by the Toscor family of the Wild Coast[43]
- Keoish brandy[17][20][44]
- Keoish Golden Wine[17][20] or Keoish Amber Wine[45][46]
- Mandrake wine—an herbed wine, sometimes used as a sedative or sleeping draught.[13]
- Perrenland black mead—notorious and thick[15]
- Sundish lilac wine[17][20]—also known as "Sunndi sweet violet wine"[25][47]
- Sunndi fortified wine—a sweet wine fortified with brandy[48]
- Tehn dessert wine[15]
- Ulek violet sparkling wine[49]
- Urnst brandy—special aged[17][20][44]
- Urnst white wine[17][17][20]
- Uskberry wine[2]
- Velunian white wine[50]
Named specialty drinks
The following are each a specific, named drinks found in the Flanaess.
The following includes both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Ambiere—Furyondy's premiere apple wine[43]
- Bejl—hot, brewed blended-herb beverage from Adri, aka Sacred Grove, Elflord's Delight, or Citrine Zest[43]
- Beory's Draught—"cloudy, mahogany-brown ale" brewed in Willend[51]
- Claw wine—made by the Rist family who run the Snapping Line (inn) in Saltmarsh. It is made of lobster meat and potatoes, and "it is, to put it mildly, an acquired taste."[52]
- Blastenbeer—home-brewed from herbal preparations of flora of the Adri by Gloria, hostelery proprietor in Eastfair. Famed throughout the city, especially dwarves.[53]
- Elven Aleeian wine—made from deep-woods wild grapes; takes months to gather enough for even single batch[39]
- Elven moondrop—produced only by an alchemist, made with fresh dew and moonlight[39]
- Frinnecre—cider of fruit juices and extracts[43]
- Gauglathiir—Celene wintergreen-flavored "nectarwine"; emerald in color[43]
- Heathen—thick, sweet berry wine, made by dwarves of the Lone Heath[43]
- Iriador—red wine from Celene; served chilled or room temp., dark and heavy, with fruity undertones; made specifically for human taste[43]
- Kaffet—mountain-grown, roasted, ground beans brewed for bitter, hot drink from Zeif.[43] (trans. of "coffee" via Swedish fr:Turkish/Arabic)
- Mist mash—"spirits" stronger than brandies or elixirs made in Hawkeen on the Mistmarsh.[43]
- Old Peculiar—ale made at Peculiar Manor. Jet-black, heavy, and thick; "tastes like liquid peat", and no one has ever claimed to drink more than two pints.[54]
- Orlane Special wine—brewed at the winery at the Inn of the Slumbering Serpent in Orlane[55]
- Rentish schnapps[56]
- Shamarit—dry, blended Velunian white/blush wine; harvested after first frost in the Shamarit region of Veluna.[43]
- Silaurey—aka "Greyhawk wine".[43][57] Medium body, highly palatable cinnamon flavor,[43][58] commonly made in the Cairn Hills; Drennn vintners considered superior[43]
- Skryss—barley and whey beer popular amongst Thillonrians. Filling, with no hangover.[43]
- Ulek Elixir—a liqueur[20]
- Velunian fireamber wine[17][20][59][60]
- Witch Queen's Cauldron—house ale of the Blue Dragon Inn in the City of Greyhawk.[61]
Beverages in other sources
There are various beverages mentioned in the Gord the Rogue novels:
- Adri brandy[62]—called "bad tasting stuff, thick and bitter". Antidote to the narcotic effects of "Flowers of Thratus Kaloid" narcotic vapor.
- Pomarj black wine—a bottled, " rare, especially costly" drink (after the humanoid invasion of the Pomarj). This "inky" black wine tastes somewhat foul with a bitter aftertaste, and is also addictive. Though, the addictive "stuff they put in it" is unknown.[47]
