Suloise (also Suel or Ancient Suloise) is an ancient and widespread language, and is the native tongue of the Suel people. It became almost extinct after the destruction of the Suel Imperium. It is rarely used in modern times, aside from being spoken by a minority of sages and scholars in order to read ancient books and scrolls,[1] lawyers in the Free City of Greyhawk,[2] and by the Scarlet Brotherhood.[3] It is dangerous to use in spellcasting, as many inflections and spoken use of the language have been lost,[4] although knowing Ancient Suloise is needed to become a Suel Arcanamach.[5]
In addition to the standard Suloise writing, there is also a runic alphabet known to almost no one.[6]
