Farland is a prince of House Darmen in the part of the former Great Kingdom that has become the Kingdom of Ahlissa. He was the brains behind House Darmon's bid for the Malachite Throne at the end of the Greyhawk Wars.
Description
Appearance
Although Prince Farland is over 71 years old, he has aged well. He has dark brown eyes and a heard full of dark brown hair, with a close-cropped beard, neither of which show any hint of gray.
Personality
Prince Farland is known for being patient, but still having an iron will, and polite and debonair, but rarely actually trusts anyone, always having contingency plans for if his main plan and his back-up plan both fall through. He is known to actively enjoy working with his many spies and emissaries as well as his power games with Princess Bersheba.
Abilities
Dex: 16, Con: 17, Wis: 17, Cha: 18[1]
Home
Prince Farland is in control of the land surrounding Jalpa. The land in that area is barren, but is made up for by Jalpa being well placed for trade.
Equipment and possessions
His most prized possession is an ancient, bejeweled longsword +5, which is an old family heirloom which he carries with him, making sure it is very visible during all public and political engagements.[1]
He is also known to wear +5 plate mail and carry a +5 shield
Relationships
Enemies
Allies and minions
Being as powerful as he is, Prince Farland got into the habit, during the tail end of the Greyhawk wars, of always traveling with a retinue of 20 fighters leveled 5-9, along with two mages, who are near his person or in his rooms at all times.[1]
History
During the tail end of the Greyhawk Wars, Prince Farland was a driving force behind the attempt to put his nephew then-Prince Xavener on the Malachite throne, driven by the increased crime rate in Jalpa, which he saw as a predictor of trouble from the east that would cause even more problems for them if they didn't take steps to get ahead of it. He gathered troops and began to gather allies to the cause as well. He knew that he could not be the one to publicly make the bid, due to his known rivalry with Princess Bersheben, and thought Xavener was the best candidate. The point became irrelevant with the fall of Rauxes and the disappearance of the throne in question, though Xavener was the Darmen Prince who did end up becoming king.
