Septien Selfareine, nicknamed the "White Lily," is the master of the thieves' guild in Gryrax in the Principality of Ulek.
Description
Septien stands 5'11" tall and weighs 131 lbs. He has silver-blond hair, light-blue eyes, clear, pale skin, high cheekbones. His limbs are long and slender. He always leaves a single white flower behind at the scene of his crimes.
As guildmaster, Septien rules with a light hand. The three members of the guild's ruling council do most of the day-to-day work, advising Septien on how the guild feels about various matters and leaving him with much freedom to do as he likes.
Septien loathes dwarves. He does not bar dwarves from entering his guild, but he makes it difficult for them to advance, and he has even sold a few out to the authorities rather than see them attain power among the thieves.
History
Septien was born in Celene, the son of a minor elven noble and a human man. Though he was illegitimate, his doting mother gave him private training in magic. He soon took to adventuring, venturing into the orc-infested Pomarj and engaging in burglaries in Enstad to sharpen his skills as both mage and thief. At the same time, he cultivated social graces and musical skill.
He left Celene for the Principality of Ulek after a failed love affair with a haughty grey elf dancer. Septien became a lazy, fat alcoholic in short order, coming out of his funk only when he learned of the White Lily Diamond, an excruciatingly valuable gem discovered in the Kron Hills and being exhibited at the Gryrax Palace of Culture. After pulling off the heist and leaving a white flower behind (the first time he had done so), he sold the gem back to Prince Olinstaad Corond for a fraction of its true worth. Septien is not interested in becoming rich off his thefts; he steals to show off how skillful and intelligent he is.
Septien was guildless for some years, but was drafted into the leadership position after coincidentally robbing the same place as the acting guildmaster. The guild had been squabbling over who would succeed the old guildmaster, who had recently died, and the infamous White Lily was popular enough that he threatened none of the competing factions.
Septien's identity is known to the ruling council of the thieves' guild, though still secret to most, who know Septien Selfareine only as a successful musician. There is talk that Septien may even be granted the title of Court Companion by Prince Corond, which is given to his royal advisers. Corond is thought to seek Septien's views on elven and cultural affairs.
