Csipros Erd, known as the Geysers of Death and the Valley of Death, is a mysterious valley in the northern Barrier Peaks, in the land of Ket.

Description

The valley is surrounded by a system of geysers, white stone, colored pools, and pits. Nearby, lakes of a blood-red color were considered unlucky by Kettite peasants. The maze of hills and valleys in the region is large, and it's not clear exactly where Csipros Erd is.

The lakes occasionally release poisonous gases, similar to a cloudkill spell, after disturbances such as rockslides or earthquakes. There are a remarkable amount of bones in the lakes, now encrusted with minerals from the hot springs.

Inhabitants

Paraelementals and quasielementals from the Paraelemental Plane of Ooze and the Quasielemental Plane of Steam have moved into the region. A local hill giant tribe dwelling nearby has learned the tactic of hurling boulders into the lakes when enemies approach from the valley form, releasing the poisonous gases and killing them. For obvious reasons, there is not much life in the valley itself.

History

The geysers were discovered in 510 CY by a horde of orcs and goblins led by the half-orc Urgrush, making a last stand against the Kettite lord Sandor, called the Headstrong. A terrible wind manifested in the valley, slaughtering both the humanoids and Sandor's troops. Only a fraction of Sandor's army, who had been on the upper slopes of the valley, survived. After spending two days trying to get through the barrier of poisonous gas to take the humanoids' treasure, he returned to Polvar to recuperate, swearing his surviving men to secrecy as to the location of the valley. Shortly thereafter he launched a new expedition to the valley, but never returned.
