Myariken is a general in the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Description
Myariken is a tough and muscular middle-aged man (44 in 585 CY) with dark brown eyes, iron grey hair, and a thick black beard greying in places. He is 6' 6" with an intimidating stare. He has a broad swathe of scar tissue along the right side of his jaw, where he is missing most of his teeth. His beard on that side is scrawny.[1] The facial scarring was left by wounds from a massive two-headed troll in the Rakers some years prior to 585 CY.[1]
Religion
Myariken is a follower of Pholtus in his Lawful Good aspect, and he loathes the Valorous League of Blindness and the Theocracy of the Pale.[1]
Abilities
Str 18/16, Con 17, Int 15.[1]
Equipment and possessions
Myariken is known to possess various magical items including plate mail +4 of etherealness, a girdle of stone giant strength, a bastard sword +3 frost brand and a very rare medium horse lance +4 able to dismount opponents.[1]
History
In 585 CY Myariken was one of three Field Generals, commanding the northern and north-west front, along with Hanshal (Flinty Hills front) and Younard (Almorian borderlands front). He is forthright, having denounced Royal General Basmajenn before King Archbold III and been threatened with dismissal as a result. He also made his views clear to Lynwerd.[2]
Myariken and Hounard disagreed about the strategy to defend Nyrond. Myariken despised the Theocracy of the Pale and wished to hold all of Nyrond, while Hounard supported allying with the Urnst states and the Pale, and only defending a reduced Nyrond (the Tripartite Alliance plan and Lesser Nyrond thesis).[2]
He held King Archbold III in contempt and supported Prince Lynwerd replacing him. If able he would have driven the Valorous League of Blindness out of Nyrond, closed the borders with the Theocracy of the Pale, and stop exports of scarce food to the Pale to keep it for Nyrond. It was rumored he had his most trusted henchmen raid the Pale via the Phostwood to supply food to northern Nyrond.[1]
By 591 CY Myariken was in supreme command of Nyrond's armies, and said to be a great friend of King Lynwerd.[3]
In Living Greyhawk
The Nyrond region Gazetteer detailed Myariken's first name as Lie, and indicated in Patchwall 592 CY he was stationed in Midmeadow as Consul of the Northern March in command of Legion VII.
He was indicated (in a Nyrond Meta-Regional (NMR) adventure) in 592 CY to have placed a price on the head of Zylinchin, a leader of the Valorous League of Blindess. He was hated within the Pale and by the League for his raids on Hawkburgh and other neighboring Palish townships using the Phostwood to stage those attacks.[4]
