"Nyrond went through a near-imperialistic phase, making both the County of Urnst and Theocracy of the Pale tributary states for a time. This course was altered, however, when the wise King Dunstan I, called "the Crafty", saw his realm threatened by internal strife and exterior enemies and called up the Great Council of Rel Mord.

Here, the king met with ambassadors from Almor, the Iron League, the Pale, and Urnst. All troops were withdrawnfrom the Pale and Urnst thereafter, the Nyrondese allowing both areas self-determination, and both, in turn, agreeing to a concord entailing mutual trade and military support. Almor was treated somewhat similarly, and aid was granted to the Iron League in the form of loans and treaties which assured the League of survival against the common enemy."[1][2]

Also, "every Nyrondal principality and subject state attended, as did representatives from [...] Greyhawk"[3]

The council met for six weeks of negotiations[3] before aid was granted to the Iron League in the form of loans and treaties which assured its survival against the common enemy of the Great Kingdom.

The Council of Rel Mord is celebrated in the Urnst states as "Council Day",[4] and in the Pale as "Emancipation Day".[5]

Date of the Council

Some sources give varying references for when the council took place.

Early sources indicate the council took place (at least) "sucessive decades" after Nyrond's founding in 356 CY.[6] Additionally, the council is referred to as being held in "the mid-fourth century",[4] and is further specified in the Player's Guide (1998) as "over two hundred years" before 591 CY.[7]. This would indicate somewhere between 376 CY and 390 CY.

In contrast, the later Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000) gives a date of 450 CY—in the mid-fifth century.[8]

In addition to the year, the month is also variously recorded. Dragon magazine Annual 1999 presents "Council Day", which is held :"in remembrance of the final day" of the council meeting, on Coldeven 19. However, the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer says negotiations lasted six weeks after Harvester,[3] meaning Patchwall or Ready'reat (depending on when in Harvester it began).
