Marmel Raveiz is the quartermaster of the thieves' guild in Monmurg, capital of the Hold of the Sea Princes. As quartermaster, his job is to take care of the magic items the guild owns, stock thieving equipment, and do the guild's bookkeeping.
Description
Marmel weighs 132 pounds and stands 5'8" high. His fair hair is long and stringy, his eyes are a greenish-blue hue. His weathered skin is pale. His nose is slightly hooked and his large fingers are attached by large, knobby knuckles.
Marmel is a gentle, fey sort who enjoys haggling and collects unusual heraldic designs. During his rare forays away from the guildhouse, he disguises himself as a merchant clerk.
History
Marmel began his career as an apprentice to a mage in Furyondy. The mage was abusive and insane, and Marmel could not get free of him until his master was forced to take part in an expedition against pirates in the Hold of the Sea Princes. Their ship was sank by pirates, and Marmel took advantage of the confusion to kill his master and steal his spell books. The pirates prevented him from escaping, however, so Marmel stayed on as a pirate, later becoming an adventuring thief on land as piracy declined. Marmel improved his thieving skills, but decided to avoid magic, afraid that the family or guild of his former master might still be looking for him—or that his mad old master might have somehow returned to life.
Marmel has retired from the adventuring life to the quieter life of a guild quartermaster. He is very competent at his job and valuable to the guild, which pays him well in exchange for his services.
