The Hamlet of Blackwall Keep is a small village that has sprung up around Blackwall Keep at tthe edge of the Mistmarsh, largely populated by refugees fleeing the Wild Coast. The most recent influx arrived in 596 CY when orcs of the Orcish Empire of the Pomarj smashed through Greyhawk’s defensive line west of Safeton.[1]

Description

After refugees began fleeing the orc raids from the Wild Coast to the Free City of Greyhawk, the Directing Oligarchy had to do something. Because refugees were pushed out of the Free City and into outlying villages, the population of this hamlet grew by leaps and bounds.

A fairly small, quiet place, this provincial hamlet on the border of the Mistmarsh has many friendly people who are a tight-knit community. The buildings are simple, and many unpainted. Some buildings or businesses give the appearance of once having been cabins, and are now converted to other purposes. The Blackwall Keep Inn, a large, sprawling building, sits at the middle of the town, which is surrounded by a small palisade or wooden wall which was added in late 597 CY.

Blackwall Keep is occasionally visited by a skypilot (gryphon-rider) of the Mountaineer Militia.[2]

Publishing History

Blackwall Keep was first mentioned in the From the Ashes: Campaign Book. The hamlet associated with it was not originally part of it, but, as the garrison needed support, people began settling there, and it grew. It was not until 2007 that the village was described in “Mysterious Places: Blackwall Keep” which tied it to the new adventure Scourge of the Howling Horde. The adventure was translated to the Living Greyhawk campaign as an "Adaptable" adventure, replacing the village of Barrow's Edge with Blackwall Keep.
