Myths and legends

The Chalice of Heironeous

The Chalice of Heironeous is known only in a secret myth revealed to the highest echelons of the Chalice, a knightly order devoted to slaying fiends. Most believe the Chalice to be a powerful relic of Heironeous's faith kept safe by the Masters of the order. The masters of the order, the Lightning Councilors, know that the Chalice of Heironeous is actually the daughter of Heironeous, a young goddess-angel kidnapped by Hextor and given over to Dispater in enable him to shirk responsibility for his deed, as well as to keep the prisoner more secure. The Chalice was founded in approximately -628 CY in order to find a way to rescue the Chalice of Heironeous and reunite her with her father [Player's Handbook II, page 170].

Creative origins

Though described as a miraculous silver cup in earlier sources, the Chalice of Heironeous was revealed to be a "goddess-angel" in the Player's Handbook II.
