Midnight Darkness is an evil vigilante group which operated in the late days of the Great Kingdom.

History

The group's activity began c.555 CY, but the murders the organization has committed have been linked to it for considerably fewer years.[1]

Members

The group is led by Karnquiza, a priest of Tharizdun, who is secretly working for the Scarlet Brotherhood (though neither the preceptors nor other members know this). His title is "Hidden Sickle".[1]

Several of his group are also priests of Nerull, including most of the upper echelons.[1]

Structure

Underneath the "Hidden Sickle" are four preceptors, and under them roughly a dozen specialized agents, and under them 20 or so junior members.[2] The group does often hire common thugs for various purposes.[2]

Alignment

This group of assassins and murderers is patently evil.[1]

Heraldry

While the group does not have heraldry as such, they do leave a calling card. They leave a dagger between the shoulder blades of every victim. Unvaryingly, around its handle is a strip of black cloth which is dipped in deadly contact poison.[1]

Activities

The Midnight Darkness is known for killing prominent or high-ranked people who are not evil, particularly priests of St. Cuthbert and Pholtus. They use disguises, both magical and mundane, as well as magic items which allow teleportation.[1]

Hidden Agenda

The Scarlet Brotherhood has put Karnquiza under a geas spell, and has been using him to spy on the city of Zelradton by having him manipulate other members of the Midnight Darkness to unknowingly send coded messages, specifically Erkann the Antiquary, one of his preceptors,. [1]
