This Wood CoG map (also known as the Player's Guide map) is the common name for the map by Sam Wood[1] of the City of Greyhawk, published in the Greyhawk Player's Guide (1998), p.32-33. Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Description
The Wood CoG map follows the maps in The City of Greyhawk (1989) by Valerie Valusek and Dave "Diesel" LaForce, especially Valusek's isometric map of the city.[2] Unlike Valusek's map, however, the Wood map is printed in black and white.
The map is a two-page spread, so it's length is oriented side-to side. This means that in order to fit the map, it was sideways from the perspective that most maps are oriented with north being "up". The labels are all situated to be read in this unusual orientation, but the compass rose makes clear that north is to the left in this illustration.[2]
The city is depicted in 591 CY, and is given a scale of 1'=400 ft.[2]
Publication history
The Wood map also appears as a keyed/numbered version of the map on the interior of the cardstock screen in The Adventure Begins (1998).[3]
Reception
James MacDuff reviewed the Player's Guide in 1998, in Shadis #50;[4] he liked the 11" X 16" maps compared to the more unwieldy large-format folding maps from earlier Greyhawk sets.[4]
