A citation template for Dungeons & Dragons sourcebooks. To make it easier to type, it is also aliased to the code {{csb}}.

Usage

Place this after any sentence or section which references a D&D sourcebook as its source. Place the citation tag after any punctuation mark rather than before it.

Full entries for sources used should still be placed in a"Bibliography" or "Further Reading" section.

The template takes the following parameters:

  • Book name: The first parameter is the name of the sourcebook. A number of popular abbreviations and aliases are recognized, including many series codes (e.g. T1-4, L3), Encyclopedia Greyhawkania abbreviations (LGG, TAB) and common aliases (e.g. "Folio", "Box Set"). This parameter is required.
  • Page number: The second parameter is a number or range of numbers.
  • Sub-book: The third parameter is which book of a box set or chapter, subsection, or section title. Normally unnecessary.
  • inline: put a brief citation inlinein the body text sentence, rather than an footnote
  • Prefix: A module code. NOTE: This is almost never used, as the template already automatically adds the prefix for known Greyhawk books in their entries,
  • Note: Optional. Used to add a text quote, author's name, or other note after the text.

Syntax

{{csb|Greyspace|7|inline=yes}}
{{csb|Living Greyhawk Gazetteer|21-25}}
{{csb|World of Greyhawk Box Set|9|Guide}} or {{csb|WoG|9|Guide}}
{{csb|Treasures of Greyhawk|32-40|Bigby's Modest Home}}
{{csb|T1-4|12}}
{{csb|Loot Free or Die Hard. [[RPGA]]. (2008)|3|note=(Interactive)}}
This produces—

(SJR6 Greyspace (1992), p.7)  [1][2][3][4][5][6]

  1. Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000), p.21-25.
  2. World of Greyhawk Box Set, p.9, Guide.

You can cite any book with this template. However, magazines have their own templates.

Troubleshooting errors

The same {{csb}} cannot be used multiple times with different |note= parameters; it will produce a template error. To avoid this, use different aliases for a product.

For example, this

{{csb|PH1e|25|note=First note.}}
{{csb|PH1e|25|note=Second note.}}

produces this error:

[1][1]

  1. a b Player's Handbook (1978), p.25, First note.. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name "sb-PH1e-p25-s" defined multiple times with different content

But using the full name of the source and separate aliases avoids this.

{{csb|Player's Handbook (1e)|25|note=First note}}
{{csb|PHB1e|25|note=Second note.}}
{{csb|PH1e|25|note=Third note.}}

Which produces—[1][2][3]
