Hocholve is an abandoned town on the Javan River in the Duchy of Geoff
History
Founded in 538[1], the town was first built as a fort to defend against the creatures of the Dim Forest. It used to be inhabited by human rangers and bowmen, as well as their elven allies.
When the giants invaded Geoff, a strange "dark green, fern-like plant"[2] was found in Hocholve. Amongst the elves, it was known as "staffern".[2] Specifically hill giants (and theoretically ettins, horags, verbeeg, and possibly mountain giants) were affected by this plant. When they began to celebrate the taking of Hocholve in the assault, they immediately noticed a rash which quickly spread amongst all those present. It grew on open skin and formed "plant-like growths under the skin". Almost immediately, the hill giants began having sever pain, vomited up plant material, and in short order died and their bodies were taken over by the plant and changed entirely into more of the plants.[2]
The other giants believed it was a curse, not knowing about the bizarrely aggressive plant.[2]
The town remained entirely abandoned (at least through 591 CY),[3] though it stands almost entirely intact.[2]

The town is built right where the Javan River and the Olvewater meet.
