Hornwood trees are close in size and shape to an elm tree.[1] It is a beautiful hardwood which, when treated, is particularly resilient.
Like many other mundane trees of both Oerth and Earth, there are varieties of hornwood.
- Some hornwood trees have unusually straight trunks and branches and black bark. Their leaves are as long and pointed as spear-tips.[1]
- Other hornwood trees have a trunk which is "yellowish to brown and smooth."[2]
Hornwood bows are particularly prized, though other weapons are made from the material as well. First-rate hornwood is hard to come by,[3] and quality hornwood bows are hard to prepare. Nonetheless, they make the finest of elven bows.[1][3]
Hornwoods are very common in the Hornwood forest, for which it is named.[1][3][4] It is exceedingly common for bloodvines to grow amongst hornwood trees with which they share similarities like coloration, though they have differently shaped leaves.[2]
