Mentrey is the former capital Medegia, which was first conquered by Osson of Chathold before being sacked and pillaged by Ivid V's armies.[1]
History
The city was sacked just after the sacking of Pontylver, which did give the people of the city some advanced notice and time to flee, however the roads were especially muddy due to recent excessive rain, and so evacuation was difficult. [1] After the the full break-up of the Great Kingdom, the city, and the rest of what was left of Medegia were folded into the Kingdom of Ahlissa.
Government
Post sacking, the city was divided into two occupied zones, east and west, withnthe occupying forces often skirmishing in the city center. [1] One half of the city is controlled by a one-armed orog who leads a group of Euroz orcs, who have enslaved many of the residents, forcing them to construct barricades. The other half of the city is controlled by a loosely affiliated group of human mercenaries, bandits and army deserters. The humans side tends to having a lot of infighting, and have lost a number of their forces to drunken brawls.[1] The remaining residents tend to be more sympathetic toward the mercenaries and bandits, in part because of the orcs enslaving people and in part because they are human[1].
Rumors and Legends
There was a high concentration of well-educated men in the city before it was sacked, and thus there were many valuable tomes and art pieces in the city. Since Pontylver was sacked first, Mentrey had warning of the coming army and there was a massive evacuation effort. However, the muddied roads made moving anything heavy near impossible, so a large number of city residents allegedly sealed away their valuables, which theoretically remain hidden away, undisturbed. The contents of the city treasury had not been fully accounted for by 585 CY and may have been still stashed under the city somewhere. [1]
