Rhop
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rhop is the legendary homeland of the Rhennee people.
Description
Rhop is rarely spoken about with outsiders.[1] Even amongst the Rhennee themselves, truly little is known of Rhop, other than it being "another plane" or "world"[2][1] and that it is exceedingly dissimilar to the Flanaess.[1] The Rhenfolk came to Oerth by "accident" and are "lost".[1][3] Though Rhop is sometimes referred as being something found in legends, it is known the Rhennee "are not native to Oerth."[3][4]
Inhabitants
The only people ever referred to in officially published material as being from Rhop, or related to Rhop in any way, are the Rhennee. Although, it is unclear if other Rhennee still remain on Rhop or if they all migrated, and if there are other inhabitants of Rhop.
Speculation
All official sources definitively agree Rhop is a "world" or "plane". There are no official sources which define it otherwise.
However, there has been fan-speculation for years that Rhop is not a plane or world, but a nation or region on Oerth, instead.[5] In a bit of fan-service, the Living Greyhawk Journal #2 (2000) wrote that is is "a matter open to speculation" whether Rhop could be a "foreign country, a distant planet, or an alternate plane."[6] While any topic can be specualted upon, Rhop being a terrestrial "foreign country" seems to not align with information in the Player's Guide, The Adventure Begins, and Living Greyhawk Gazetteer which confirm Rhennee are "not native to Oerth". LGJ#2 is the only source which suggests such speculation—it is otherwise presented as a fact they are from another plane (or world).
