Scuttlecove is a city of pirates and depravity on the island of Sekorvia in the Pirate Isles archipelago.

Description

History

Scuttlecove was founded by the Holy Triad, a group of three ur-priests, blasphemers who steal power from the gods, offering only contempt in return. The Holy Triad were, as if this were not enough, cannibals and they organized a monastic order known as the Monks of the Dire Hunger to serve them. They imposed no rule of law on the new settlement save one: the worship of divine beings was forbidden under penalty of death. The settlement attracted the barbarous pirates of the archipelago, and within a few years it was a thriving, if unspeakably decadent, city.

In 592 CY the Holy Triad was deposed, and since then the city has been on the edge of civil war as various factions seek to fill the vacuum left by their absence.[1]

The worst of the pirate gangs was the infamous Crimson Fleet,[2] who were based in the hidden port of Scuttlecove until their defeat in 597 CY.[3]

Geography

Scuttlecove sits on the southern coast of Sekorvia.[4]

People

Religion

Although religious faith was outlawed for most of the city's history, cults have bloomed in recent years, with temples of such vile gods as Incabulos and Vecna appearing alongside the worship of demons and devils, whose faiths are Scuttlecove's most popular.

Government

After the rule of the Holy Triad was destroyed, six separate factions rose in Scuttlecove to fill the void, though none are "governments", per se. They are typically more like gangs, criminal syndicates, rings, or cartels.

Economy

Scuttlecove's economy is primarily based on the trafficking of narcotics, slaves, and stolen goods.

Publishing History

Scuttlecove was designed for Porphyry House Horror as the setting for that adventure.[5]

It also featured heavily in the Savage Tide adventure path as a setting for a portion of that campaign.
