Spikerift is a deep natural depression located in the heart of the Grandwood.[1]

Description

The depression if filled with sharp grasses and thorny bushes that give the area it's name. At the bottom is a lake filled with icy-cold ink-black water and a whole system of cave, many of which have underwater openings. There are few animals that live in the area, though large bubbles have been observed on the surface of the lake, suggesting underwater creatures make their home there, and large eel-like creatures have been spotted from time to time. There are also reports of eerie phosphorescence at the mouths of some of the caves at night.

Rumors and legends

People tend to avoid the area, even elves and rangers, because of all of the rumors surrounding the place. One of the most well known is that a priest of Hextor placed a rival priest who worshiped Nerull in temporal stasis, using a very powerful good-aligned artifact of some sort, described as a stave or a crook. Taking the artifact, the rumors say, would release the evil priest to wreak havoc if not dealt with promptly.
