Spring Feast
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Spring Feast is the day considered the first day of the new year by the church of Atroa.
Description
"The most holy day of the church of Atroa, the goddess of spring, this is a day of rest, prayer, reflection, and thought concerning what the next year will bring. Priests of Atroa consider it the first day of the new year. Although [other festivals are] important to this church, the 4th [...] is set aside as a day of rest, splitting the back-breaking planting week in two."[1]
While Spring Feast is celebrated on the 4th, "many farmers and herdsmen mark Great Moon's Glory on the 11th as the beginning of spring, though Readying 1st is the calendar date for spring's start."[2]
Misattribution
In "Campaign Holidays", Dragon Magazine Annual: 1999 (Annual #4), p19, the "spring" or "vernal" equinox is identified as the first day of spring on Growfest 4th.
However, this would seem to be a misidentification because in all other sources,[3][4][5][6][7][8] spring begins in Readying[2][note 1] (when there is no equinox). Whether comparing earlier or later sources which depict the calendar with either four seasons or five, spring does not begin during Growfest in any sources.[note 2]
Because of this misattribution, it can be concluded that Spring Feast should be in Readying at the beginning of spring instead of Growfest 4th, since it celebrates the Bringer of Spring..

Notes
- ↑ "Readying 1st is the calendar date for spring's start."[2]
- ↑ However, despite specific dates given for seasons, in The Adventure Begins, Roger Moore refers to Growfest as the "full arrival of spring" (though that has debatable meaning), and in Player's Guide Anne Brown refers to it "as soon as spring comes", even though the calendar in those sources still identifies Readying as spring's start.
