A note on yugoloths

I wouldn't object to a separate section at the end of the article listing yugoloth lords, explaining that they've been recategorized as a demon subrace in 4th edition, but including them in the main list without any distinction seems just confusing for the casual reader who may not realize that Phraxas is a renamed Anthraxus or that Mydianchlarus was briefly the Oinoloth. And it's redundant, anyway, since there's already a list of 'loth lords in the yugoloth article. The Forgotten Realms wiki, which I contribute to often, has been left kind of a mess trying to deal with all the 4th edition changes while still acknowledging prior canon (for example, characters labeled cambions, aasimar, succubi, eladrins, or archons in prior-edition sources are now apparently something else, though it's not always clear what), though there it has to be admitted that 4e definitely represents, for the most part, the latest official word for that setting. Here I think it's more sensible to stick with the 1st/Second edition cosmology as a base and keep 4th edition changes listed separately except in cases where they don't conflict with prior canon. Greyhawk as such isn't a 4th edition setting yet anyway, so I tend to consider 4e lore a lesser priority here, and possibly flat-out noncanon as of yet. Thus, I put notes noting 4e changes at the ends of articles, but think the Great Wheel remains Greyhawk canon for now. -- Rip 12:41, 17 June 2011 (EDT)

Add: 4e isn't entirely off-topic, since it's official D&D and a number of Greyhawk fans, including Canonfire regulars, use it. I just think the wiki is more useful as a reference guide if radical 4e changes are labeled as such. And as long as I'm on the talk page, I might as well say that I'm tempted to list Pathfinder demon lords in this article, in a separate section, for similar reasons, though it'd take up a lot of space and maybe that sort of thing would be more appropriate for a Golarion wiki. What does everyone else think? -- Rip 12:46, 17 June 2011 (EDT)

You make a good point, there. I had not considered that Phraxas was really Anthraxus (hadn't really read the entry yet, but now I am obviously curious). I knew that Mydian was the guy who usurped Anthraxus's throne, and I guess they killed him off, so who knows. The altraloths were confusing enough already without making them demon lords. :) BOZ 12:49, 17 June 2011 (EDT)
