Talk:Valley elf

The origin still needs to be flushed out. If we take the amount of references to grey elf heritage we can shut the door on sylvan vs grey lineage. Seeing that tree with the drow on the same branch and the idea of snow or valley elves being shunned by all other elves like the drow are may connect them in history? -Tacoturtle, February 25, 2019, 23:49

That's entirely possible, though it's sort of speculation.
While I wish it were that easy, we can't really confirm that's why they are shunned, but we can certainly hold our own fan-theories about that being the case.
If you'd like to add a small /*Speculation*/ section, there's certainly no reason not to, or just discuss it here. That's not uncommon for speculation or theories to be posted on a subject's "Talk" page.

Which printing of the Complete Book of Elves is that picture from?

I will admit to being a bit of a newcomer for Greyhawk, as well as this wiki, but I can't seem to find any evidence except that one picture that the Drow were ever part of the Valley Elf Branch I'll check my print copy when I get home, but it's certainly not in the DM'S Guild Copy. - SwordlordRoy (talk) 02:26, 20 September 2023 (EST)

Hey there, SwordlordRoy!!
We're always glad to have new members using the wiki, especially when they're new fans!
So, you know, you've made a fascinating point. Frankly ... I don't know. Neither the physical copy nor the digital DMsGuild version seem to have a "1st Printing", "Second Printing" kind of thing. I know I've found errors, and discussed them on DMsGuild, where there were errors where the book internatlly referred to itself as the "sixth" instead of "Seventh" in the series. But, in the physical copy, it was later corrected in later printings.
I'm a little baffled, honestly, that the particular illustration wouldn've been changed. I mean, drow are always said to be an offshoot of other elves ... but, while I certainly think a rationale could be made for why vaslley elves and drow came from the same branch, I could also see why others may not like it that way.
The unfortunate part, IMO, is that in the digital version, the implication would then be that there are no drow in Greyhawk. Which, to put it mildly, obviously isn't the case.
I wish I had a better answer for you, SwordlordRoy ... but, I can't think of a way to find information about various printings of the book.
Let us know what your physical copy looks like when you get home and have a chance!
