Voyeaux the Whimsical is a powerful wielder of magic who dwells in the twelfth dungeon level beneath the parody version of Castle Greyhawk.

Description

Voyeaux is quick and intelligent. Though he appears perhaps 35 years old, he has been alive for several centuries. Lately he spends most of his time in a robe and pajamas, lying in bed and viewing places he's already been through his magical tapestry. His slippers look like griffins, and his pajamas have a spider motif. He wears a full beard.

Home

Voyeaux has a private chamber on the twelfth dungeon level. It seems very airy and spacious due to permanent illusions cast on the walls. On the east wall is the illusion of an infinite corridor with an endless number of other rooms branching off from it. On the south wall there is an illusion of a balcony looking out to a garden open to the sky. The north wall is covered with the Tapestry of Rooms, an artifact that Voyeaux stole from the tyrant of Elredd. It allows the wizard to view any room he has ever been in. The west wall leads to the Random Monster Generator. The room contains an elegant four-poster bed, a scribe's desk, and a larder of holding.

History

Several hundred years ago, Voyeaux was an aspiring young chaotic good adventurer. Through the course of his expeditions, he gained a reputation as a "tourist" who observed his companions and the locations he went to while hanging back from the actual danger and combat. Sometimes he would provoke the danger and combat by antagonizing people he met or playing on his companions' weaknesses to get them to fight one another. Voyeaux was confident he would never be truly hurt, and in fact died only three times during his entire career, each time brought back to life by his surviving companions. Despite his general cowardice and antagonistic attitude, he was quick and intelligent and never let his party down when they were in true trouble, and therefore was included in many different adventuring bands. At some point he discovered a cache of longevity potions which have kept him alive for centuries. He also discovered the Random Monster Generator, which took up a sizable portion of the lower levels of a dungeon he adventured in late in his career as a magic-user. Entranced by the device and determined to prove himself worthy of it, he had the artifact disassembled and brought to an old friend for safe-keeping. He began a new career as a thief (his alignment shifting to chaotic neutral), and then an illusionist before choosing Castle Greyhawk as an ideal retirement spot. After exploring the dungeon thoroughly, he withdrew to his secluded room at the core of the bottommost level, content to watch events going on in the dungeon and elsewhere in the world, unleashing random monsters with his Generator occasionally to keep things interesting.

Publication History

Voyeaux only appears in the parody adventure Castle Greyhawk.
