He was elected king after bickering between Aerdi and Nyrondal nobles exploded into violent political conflict. The local lords declared Nyrond free of the Overking's rule and elected one of their own as king. Medven was described as "wily".[1]
The viceroy of Nyrond in Rel Mord was the cousin of Overking Portillan at the time, and described as declaring his independence. This suggests Medven was viceroy at the time.[2]
