Plar is a noble title used in the Flanaess of apparent Oeridian origin.
Description
The title "plar" is a noble title used in the Flanaess the equivalent of Margrave, Marquis, Earl, Count or Archbaron, usually granted the honorific of "Noble Grace" or in the Kingdoms of Furyondy, Keoland, and the Archclericy of Veluna and surrounding civilized states the honorific of "Eminence". [1] Its usage in both Keoland and the Great Kingdom (or its former territories) suggests it is Oeridian in origin.
Instances of the title Plar include:
- Durand Grossman, a bandit lord of the Rift Canyon styling himself "Plar of the Rift".[2][3]
- The Plar of Veluna[4] (including Eldried Sarneth), the foremost of the seven noble house rulers of Veluna[5], and other dioceses[6].
- Some petty rulers of the Bandit Kingdoms.[7]
- The Plar of Sterich, a title of the King of Keoland.[8]
- The Plar of Hool, a noble of the Sea Princes.[9][10]
- The Plar of Rookroost.[11]
Creative origins
The title "plar" does not appear to have any real world basis, and appears to be a creation of Gary Gygax.[12]
