Template:Greyhawk Organization

The Seekers of the Arcane, commonly called simply the Seekers, are a loose organization of treasure hunters, scholars, and explorers with lodges throughout the Flanaess and beyond. They scour the world for artifacts, magic, and treasure. Although some claim high-minded goals, for the most part they are unscrupulous and self-centered. They help one another to a point, but they are all about personal enrichment.

History

The Seekers were founded in the late third or early fourth century CY by Jonus Marius, who gathered together the royal explorers and surveyors who served the Great Kingdom until that nation stopped expanding; without expansion, they no longer had a purpose. Marius gave them a purpose, suggesting they could explore (and plunder) the treasures of the Flanaess together. They lacked the creativity of the Company of Seven, contenting themselves with researching and occasionally reproducing the efforts of others.

Relations

The Seekers have been a foil to the Silent Ones for two centuries now, often contending for the same items. The Silent Ones hope to keep certain things undisturbed, while the Seekers are all about disturbance.

As they have begun exploring the southern seas and jungles of the Amedio coast, the Seekers have attracted the emnity of the Scarlet Brotherhood, who share their interest in ancient secrets and ruined tombs.

Some Seekers share sympathies with the Skeptics of Nellix Town, and both Seekers and Skeptics have been known to meet in a home there once owned by Jonus Marius himself

Headquarters

Lodges or clubhouses owned by the Seekers are often incognito, disguised as mundane things such as drinking houses, cartography businesses, or social clubs. They can be found in such widely separated cities as Gradsul, the Free City of Greyhawk, Irongate, Rel Astra, and Sasserine.

Prominent Seekers

Known Seekers include Eli Tomorast, Lashton of Grayhill, Tibarian Matreyus of Gradsul, and Baron Malweig of Dilwych.
