Prukal is one of the Elder Evils worshiped by the kopru race.
Description
Prukal is believed by the kopru to be darkness itself. At sunset, Prukal manifests above the sky. The stars are holes in Prukal's body, wounds inflicted upon her by the light beyond.
Relationships
The kopru believe that Prukal is one of the two mothers of Demogorgon; the other is Shothotugg, the personification of water.
Realm
Kopru is believed to live in the sky, but her true abode, or even if she exists at all, is unknown.
Dogma
The kopru love the darkness because they love Prukal. They actively avoid approaching the surface during the day, preferring moonless, starless nights. They consider starlight to be a cursed substance and mark themselves with star-shaped tattoos to ward off its baneful light.
Worshipers
Prukal is only known to have been worshiped by kopru.
Temples
Prukal is traditionally worshiped atop pyramids of basalt.
Holy days and observances
Slaves are sacrificed to Prukal on special occasions, such as the end of a successful raid, the end of a ritual war between kopru city-states, or the annual laying of eggs by a great matriarch. The sacrifices were taken to the top of Prukal's pyramid and apparatuses like large amber cylinders with descending pistons made from stone crushed the slaves to mush. Shamans were said to be able to foretell the future in the patterns of blood.
Myths and legends
The kopru teach that when dry land first emerged from the ocean depths, the light beyond the sky damaged Prukal's body, punching holes which can be seen today as stars. The flesh that once filled these holes fell to the world as dark dust, which transformed the kopura mollusks that the kopru relied upon as their primary food source, turning some of them into fiendish creatures capable of creating magical black pearls made from the substance of Prukal.
