Hierranea is a female storm giant priest of Stronmaus who lives in and defends the city of Goldbolt.

Description

Appearance

Hierranea is very tall, even by giantish standards and stands at 28', though she has a relatively slim build at only 14,800 lbs. She is considered to be striking, with skin that is "lemony-green"[1] and long wavy emerald green hair that comes down to her mid-back. She is right in her prime at 197 years old.

Personality

Hierranea is rather solitary, at least among her own kind, and is a meditative and sensitive soul who enjoys wandering, though she avoids lands that have a lot of humans, preferring to go out into Relmor Bay and seek the company of dolphins and selkies. She has a mischievous streak, being rather chaotic, and likes to tease Serrand about why he isn't married yet. She enjoys his company nonetheless, but is annoyed by the lack of privacy in Goldbolt, as the humans living there tend to stare at her. [1]

Religion

Hierranea is a priestess of Stronmaus, who is a deity in the giant pantheon, who specifically grants her the gift of prophacy and power over lightning, in addition to other powers[2]. Her power is strongly allied with creatures of the sea, specifically dolphins and selkies.[1]

Abilities

Str 25, Con 23, Wis 18, Cha 17[1]

In addition to the spells granted by her god based on her level, Hierranea has abilities of a typical "specialty priest" of Stronmaus.[1][2]

  • Charm avians and sea animal , wirth 30 HD of creatures being able to be charmed at one time
  • Summon up to 12 HD worth of water or air elementals once per day after an hour of meditation
  • Vision once per week.

She further can tap into the magical power deep under Goldbot and use it as a call lightning-like effect three times per day, dealing massive amounts of lightning damage (up to 200). In contrast, her turn undead power is only that of an 11th-level priestess.[1]

Home

Hierrana came to Goldbolt because of instructions from her deity, and she has started to make herself at home there. In 585 CY she was forced to sleep in the courtyard, as there was no accommodation large enough for her, but Karn Serrand had started on building her a tower a year previously so that she would have someplace to call her own. Though she was not the biggest fan of towers,[1] she was appriciative, both because she wanted privacy, and because she wanted someplace to store all the gifts given to her by the dolphins and selkies.

Equipment and possessions

Hierranea usually wears bronze plate mail of giantish origin and wields a bronze-studded club +4. She also has a magical necklace which makes her immune to magical alignment changes, and a giantish ring which grants her a +4 to saving throws against any spell cast by an evil creature. She has other treasures gifted to her by dolphins and selkies, though those confer no practical magical boons.[1]

Relationships

Enemies

The only real enemy that Hierranea has is Duke Szeffrin. "She sees the evil across to the west with a real hatred, and she longs to see Szeffrin and his fiends wiped from the face of Oerth."[1]

Allies

Hierranea's greatest friend and ally is Karn Serrand, who she has come to consider a friend, though she does also count the dolphins and selkies of Relmor Bay as friends.

History

When Hierranea first came to the citadel which became known as Goldbolt, Karn Serrand was about to sent her away, because he knew that storm giants tended to run chaotic, when the skies suddenly grew dark with clouds. Hierranea touched the top of one of the towers, and drew a golden lightning bolt too her, whoch she flung all the way to the ruins of Chathold, where exploded in the air with a crack of thunder. Impressed, Serrand held off on sending her away until he prayed to Rao. His deity told him that she should be allowed to stay, so he let her stay in his courtyard until her tower could be built. Karn later learned from an ancient tome that the ability to draw power from the area and create the golden lightning is a divine power gifted to particulary devout priests. Thus, he renamed the citadel "Goldbolt". [3].
