Molag is a city in the northern Flanaess, notably the capital of the Horned Lands in early years, and later as the "summer capital" of the Empire of Iuz.
History
Molag was taken as the capital of the newly formed Horned Lands in 513 CY by worshippers of Nerull allied with warriors from the Bandit Kingdoms, who would go on to become the first Hierarchs of the Horned Society.
Although Iuz returns and starts taking down the imposters in 570, he does not recapture the southern part of his former empire controlled by the Horned Society until 583 CY.
When Iuz conquered Molag, he did so by subtly supplanting the Hierarchs and replacing their devil forces with his own demons, using shapechanging abilities to take the shape of the previous ruler's fiends.
Geography
Molag sits on the southwestern border of the Horned Lands, close to enemy nation Furyondy.
Cityscape
"Molag has always been a poor city. Starvation and lack of work have always been endemic in such a poorly resourced land. Molag never boasted many sages, mages or great artisans, save for its armorers, blacksmiths, and weapon-crafters."[1]
People
Molag's people are predominantly humans and hobgoblins.
Religion
In early years, the worship of Nerull is prolific throughout the Horned Lands.
Later, by 591 CY and beyond, worship of Iuz is enforced here as part of his empire, Nerull's cathedral still stands in Molag, and his unholy days are still respected insofar as no Iuz priests dare to hold their services on those days.
Government
Molag is ruled by the Hierarchs of the Horned Society, though it changes hands to members of Iuz's Boneheart once he takes command. Namely, Iuz's High Priestess Althea rules from the Palace of the Hierarchs, with lesser priest Marynnek in her place when she is away in Dorakaa.
