The City of Glass is a magical relic; a literal city made of glass, floating above Lendore Isle in the Spindrift Isles.

Description

The City of Glass is three miles wide[1][2] and is wrapped in a shining, swirling, vapor-like, greenish billowing cloud.[1]

Lendore "merged his life force with the substance of his lofty city, while impressing all his knowledge and memories into the Archive of Shards" which is in "the city's highest tower." [2] In it are stored "lost secrets" of the ancient Suel Imperium,

Geography

The city floats near the middle of Lendore Isle, about a half mile in the air.[1][2]

History

In late 578 CY,[1] the archmage Lendore warned about a calamity coming to the Spindrift Isles.[1] The archmage warned that the City of Glass "would be the last refuge of the inhabitants of this chain of islands once the calamity struck" and "this calamity was near, and was coming in the form of an invasion."[1] This is referred to as the "Final Calamity".[3]

At the advent of the Greyhawk Wars, in 583 CY, the large island was suddenly taken back and occupied by the elves, ejecting nearly all non-elves who lived there. The residents of the island were given "safe passage to the Sea Barons, the Lordship of the Isles, Medegia, or elsewhere along the east coast of Aerdy.[4] Those being exiled were only permitted three days to prepare, and many of them escaped through the Gate of Glass to the City of Glass, which floats above the island.[1][2]

Travel

Scattered across Lendore Isle are various portals which teleport travellers amongst them and the City of Glass. The main teleportal is the Gate of Glass outside Lo Reltarma[3], through which the largest number of refugees fled from the island. The Gate of Glass become something of a shrine, after it was deactivated by the elves.[3]

People

The inhabitants of the City of Glass are primarily humans of Suel descent.[2] who are refugees, after the elves of the isles took back the island from human occupation.

Many years ago, the City of Glass was home to a "hidden society of astroglogers, diviners, and savants ... with their kobold menials and various familiars"[2] many of whom "have dwelt here since the city's first elevation."[2]

Resources

Residents of the city have food sources to sustain themselves from magical gardens which produce food, and "citerns open to the sky" which collect and provide water.[2]
