The Good Hills Union, also called the Union of the Good Hills, is a province of western Keoland. It encompasses the majority of the Good Hills, and is inhabited primarily by non-humans.
History
The Good Hills region have been inhabited by demihumans since long before the Great Migrations. Following the settling of the humans into the Sheldomar Valley, the Oeridian peoples established peaceful contact with the natives of the Good Hills, which subsequently joined as formal members of the Kingdom of Keoland.[1]
Geography
Borders
The Good Hills Union encompasses the majority of the Good Hills, a range of hills in northwestern Keoland, with a narrow tail extending through central Keoland.
The westernmost Good Hills are instead part of the County of Flen, with the most eastern hills part of the Barony of Grayhill, and parts of hills' southern edge within the County of Cryllor and Barony of Westgate.[1]
Major settlements
The capital of the Good Hills Union is the town of Blacktop, loctaed centrally within the large northern section. It is the seat of the local government council, and has a population of just 760.
The town of Plim's Delve is inhabited by many gnomes.
Notable locations
The major roadway passing east-west through the Good Hills is the King's Highway, connecting the western city of Flen to the rest of Keoland.[2]
People
Population and demographics
The Good Hills are primarily inhabited by demihumans: many of Keoland's gnomes, dwarves, and halflings live here.
According to the Keoland Census of 589 CY published by the Living Greyhawk Keoland website, the population of the Good Hills Union is 167,506, including 72,846 humans, 55,134 gnomes, 35,404 halflings, and 4,122 dwarves. There also 140,636 poultry and 60,299 meat and dairy.[1]
Languages
The languages of the gnomes, halflings, and dwarves are commonly spoken here, in addition to the Common tongue.
Government
The Good Hills Union is a feudal province of the Kingdom of Keoland. It is ruled by a small council of democratically elected representatives, who in turn select one of their number to serve as their representative in the Court of the Land at Niole Dra. The current representative is First Speaker Blaif Rinnar,[3] a gnome warrior from Plim's Delve.
Economy
Resources
A great deal of valuable metals are mined in the Good Hills. The town of Black Top does a considerable amount of trade with the city of Flen, while the southern tail of the hills exports much in the way of precious metals to the artisans of Cryllor.
Currency
The Good Hills Union uses the standard currency of Keoland: the platinum griffon (pp), gold lion (gp), electrum eagle (ep), silver hawk (sp), and copper sparrow (cp).
