The Phostwood, Nutherwood, and environs, as depicted on the Lazzaretti map (2005).

Phostwood is both the name of a special wood from a species of bioluminescent tree (phost trees), and the name of the woodland named for those trees native to the area, on the border of the Bandit Kingdoms (in Dimre) and the Pale.

Geography

The Phostwood is located in the Duchy of Tenh north of the Yol River. It gets its name from the phost trees found here and across the Yol in the Nutherwood. [1]

History

The forest has become a ghastly battle ground between the beleaguered forces of Tenh and those of Iuz, the Theocracy of the Pale and various bandit groups which are refugees of the Bandit Kingdoms.[2]

Ecology

Phost trees are bioluminescent after they have died and begun to decay, similar to "foxfire". A branch of the phostwood tree will give off a glow sufficient to light a 5 foot radius area.[3]
