Nutherwood
The Nutherwood is a forest located within the Theocracy of the Pale.
Geography
The Nutherwood is located on the southern side of the Yol River, and bounded to the west by the Artonsamay River. The Phostwood lies on the northern side to the Yol River to it, and it separates the two forests.[1] It forms part of the northern boundary of Nyrond.[2] Its southern edge is the southernmost border of the Pale.[3]
Features
Located within the Nutherwood are:
- The Nyrond castle of Bestien's Tower stands on the southern edge of the Nutherwood.[4]
History
The Pale claims the Nutherwood against frequent incursions from Tenh and the Bandit Kingdoms. The forest has long been a home to those trying to escape the rule of the Theocrat of the Pale.[5]
Prior to the Bandit Kingdoms being conquered by Iuz, Dimre raided Tenh and Nyrond through the Phostwood and Nutherwood.[6]
In 583 CY King Archbold III of Nyrond led a huge army through the Nutherwood to attack Stonefist forces that had conquered Tenh.[7]
In Spring 585 CY remnant Stonefist forces still prowled the Nutherwood.[8]
Ecology
Phostwood trees grow along the northern margins.[5]
Inhabitants
The Nutherwood is not often visited by many, although many monsters and bandits dwell there.[9] Those who seek to avoid the agents and forces of the Pale have resided in the Nutherwood for years.[5]
Inhabitants include:[5]
- Ogres.
- Ankhegs.
- Giant beetles.
- Carnivorous plants.
