Description

Romadnen was described in 585 CY as a weakling and toadying. Romadnen did not rule through fear, but dealt with problems by running away from them.[1]
Romadnen was Neutral in alignment.[2]
Abilities
In 591 CY Romadnen was a 5th level cleric (third edition) of Zilchus.[2]
Home
Romadnen was based in Beetu, being initially the Count of Beetu[1] and later as Count of Brackenmoor having his provincial capital there.[2]
History
In Spring 585 CY, as the Count of Beetu, Romadnen ruled the city of Beetu and the lands up to the Gnatmarsh and along the Duntide River to Arnford. He was said to ignore the suffering of his people while extracting full taxes due from them, trying to buy favor with King Archbold III. Archbold would not hear ill of a man providing much needed support to his treasury in dire economic times. His royal militia were demoralized by having to collect taxes, with up to 10% of the 600 having deserted. The downtrodden and despairing people of the county lands tried to conceal what they owned or earned from the militia, who felt guilty and wretched at collecting taxes and did not press them very hard. However, as a result thieves and rogues began to flourish there, in a county where people had become practiced in dishonesty by omission if not outright lies.[3]
Romadnen never enacted the edict from Archbold to exploit the Celadon Forest and tax the population there, due to his fear at angering the wood-folk. As a result, the elves and wood-folk there did not have the same anger as for Count Bastrayne of Woodwych who had. The wood-folk regarded Romadnen as acceptable and overlooked his faults, and much of the produce exported from the Celadon came to Beetu thus increasing revenues and assisting Romadnen.[3]
Romadnen kept favor with the crown, as he was appointed Count of the County of Brackenmoor in the provincial reforms by King Lynwerd that commenced in 591 CY.[2]
In Living Greyhawk
Romadnen featured in the Living Greyhawk campaign for the Nyrond region.
He was indicated as being from House Braeton, and known as a spineless boot-licker.[4]
After Prince Sewarndt staged a coup on the last day of 594 CY, in early 595 CY Romadnen voted in favor (along with Eventide, Korenflass, Almor and Womtham) of Sewarndt taking the throne in a meeting of the Council of Lords held by Sewarndt. Romadnen became aware of an illegitimate son born to Adrean Talnith, the deceased son of Verin Talnith the Duchess of Woodwych. He hatched a plan to win favor with Sewarndt, by plotting with Count Estward Ventrose of Eventide to assassinate the Duchess and appoint the mother, Jinelle Odraya, as regent. She would then change the vote for Woodwych and legitimize Sewarndt's reign. The assassination plan failed, the Duchess found out about the child, and had adventurers rescue he and his mother from the forces holding them for Romadnen. The plot against her also provided the Duchess with an opportunity to march forces gathered to support Lynwerd south and depose Romadnen and Ventrose, and change their votes in turn.[5]
The Duchess's forces marched on Beetu and took it with little loss, while Romadnen fled to Callistor. Her forces next marched on and took Callistor with some losses. During the battle Romadnen was accidentally killed by an adventurer during covert operations supporting the main assault, despite orders he was to be taken alive. The adventurer was banished from Nyrond in punishment.[6]
Publishing history
In WGR4 The Marklands (1993) the NPC's name is consistently spelled "Bereman". However, in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000) his surname appears as "Beremen", which was repeated in the Living Greyhawk campaign.
