Shroudgate is a "strange fortified mansion[1]" in what was once the Prelacy of Almor which is often encountered under questionable circumstances, and is most likely some class of demi-plane, based on it's behavior.

Geography

While the keep is mostly encountered within the geographical area that was once Almor, it's exact location is impossible to pin down, since the building does move from place top place.

Unique magical properties

Apart from the aforementioned moving from place to place, the building has other interesting properties. For one, the building is never encountered in open terrain or in full visibility. Anyone who has ever encountered it reported that they found it though driving rain, winter mist, heavy fog, or other such conditions. [1] On top of that, anyone who had ever spent the night has reported that time moves differently inside and outside the structure, leading to years or even decades having past on the outside after one night one the inside. [2] The windows of the buildings also do not show the interior, but only ever distorted reflections of anyone trying to peer through them. [1]

Architecture

The building consists of a central hall that contains living chambers, abutted by a large wing to the east, and a smaller wing to the west. "Leering stone gargoyles flank the gray-coated iron gates, staring down from the guttering of the nested angular roof complex.[1]

The interior of the building is decorated in an ancient Oeridian design. One of The Spectre's inner sanctums is a room that us entirely filled with magical hourglasses that count down the lifespan of people, nations, and powers across the Flanaess. This room holds an icon of Istus, but there is no clear indication whether or not The Spectre is working for her, or just reveres her.[2]

Inhabitant

The sole inhabitant of the building is an ancient looking male elf who refuses to reveal him name, though most call him The Spectre. He does not seem to mind this nickname, finding it rather amusing.

Magic items

The keep contains several unique minor magic items, including:

  • Chairs which tuck and untuck themselves from the table for guests
  • Napkins which automatically clean up crumbs
  • A decanter of endless 1,000-year-old wine which pours and refills itself.
  • A magical quill and ledger set that keep and accurate record of everything that is said in their presence.
