The Spectre is a mysterious figure who is the sole occupant of Shroudgate, a mysterious structure which often appears near the former Prelacy of Almor, having never been encountered outside of the keep in recorded history. He is incorporeal and never reveals his true name. [1]
Description
Appearance
The Spectre is a withered-looking elf with white hair. He is tiny, and has a limp. While The Spectre appears to be flesh-and-blood, in poor lighting, viewed from certain angles it seems as if the elf is immaterial or semi-material", leading to moniker given to him.[1]
Personality
He is quite curious about goings-on outside of Shroudgate and appreciates wit and dry humor that match his own sardonic nature. He is also very skilled at getting visitors to reveal information, even things they did not intend to reveal to him, while offering nothing about himself.
Religion
One of the rooms in Shroudgate contains an icon of Istus, indicating that he has some connection to her though it is not known what kind of connection it represents.
Abilities
The Spectre appears to be normal flesh and blood, but he can pass through walls and objects as if they did not exist, and likewise objects can pass right through him."[1]
He is immune to most everything, including but not limited to: any weapons, and sleep, charm, hold and any type of controlling magic. "He never sleeps and cannot be surprised, controlled, dispelled, or harmed by weapon or magic."[2]
Equipment and possessions
"The Spectre owns ... impressive items, and even artifacts, but he does not reveal these to his guests."[1]
Relationships
Although he has no relation with any living being, he does have a unique obsession with the wizard Philidor of Greyhawk, and is most keen on obtaining any and all information about him.
History
Though his age is entirely unknowable, he gives "first-hand eye-witness accounts" of of historical events and speaks of the Invoked Devastation "as if his own eyes saw the full horror of it."[2] Thus, he is presumed to be at least 1,010 years old (in 585 CY), and most likely more.
