Spectre (planet)
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Spectre (or the Wink)[1] is a small planet in the Greyspace sphere (or system).
Not to be confused with The Spectre (NPC) or a spectre (creature).
Physical description
The Spectre is the furthest planet in the Greyspace system, orbiting Oerth at a distance averaging four billion miles.[1] As the last planet in the system, it is the halfway point between the primary and the edge of the sphere (or system).[2]
The Spectre is a rare type of planet—it is a flat, disk-like shape.[1] It is exceedingly small (only 100 miles across).[1]
The environment of the Spectre is not entirely hostile to humanoid life, but it is very inhospitable. The air is near Oerth-like, and is breathable. The atmostphere exists in an ovoid envelope around the disc-planet.
Gravity averages about the same as Oerth, but increases closer to the center, and lessens as one approaches the edge of the disc.[1]
History
Inhabitants
Because it is a barren, frozen rock, there are no native inhabitants of the planet, and neither flora nor fauna. Though there is speculation life might've once existed there, there is no evidence that was ever the case.[2]
There are, however, non-native intelligent species who use it as an outpost, trading center, military base, or other similar functions.[3] There are three human outposts, an elven military base, dwarven mining operation, a gnomish former floating space dock, and an illithid "trading station" which deals in illegal or stolen cargo.[4]
Features
Essentially, there are two sides to the planet—arbitrarily called the "north face" and "south face".[3]
The Spectre has one moon, Olarius. It is exceedingly small (Class A—diameter <10 miles) and "has a frigid atmosphere and its land area is a wasteland of permanent frost."[5] The "Free Neogi" company hides "cargo" on Olarius, trafficking in kidnapped intelligent beings for fellow Neogi and other evil races to use as food without traversing the Grinder.
Publishing history
The Spectre appeared in SJR6 Greyspace. Though it may be rarely mentioned in other sources, there are essentially no other details of the planet itself.
