Auric is a renowned fighter and former Champion of the Free City's Champion's Games. He is based on a character from advertisements for the D&D game in Dragon magazine in the form of single-page comic stories .
Description

Auric is "youthful" and "handsome".[1] He's illustrated as being blond-haired and very well-muscled, and often in a sleeveless outfit.
Personality
Auric thought of himself as the leader of his adventuring trio (with Khellek and Tirra, but he was very much liable to be influenced by Khellek's "poisoned whispers and diabolical insight."[2]
Abilities
Str 16, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 12 (at level 5)[3]
Str 18, Dex 14, Con 18, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 12 (at level 10)[4]
Auric is a very talented warrior, with a great deal of expertise in his chosen weapon, a two-handed greatsword (weapon specialization, weapon focus, greater weapon focus, and improved critical with it). He is a quick and agile fighter, despite his bulk (improved initiative, mobility, and spring attack).[4]
Possessions
Auric wears a +1 breastplate armor. In the Age of Worms adventure path, he wears the "Champion's Belt", a broad leather armor kidney belt ("girdle"). It is depicted with a nearly identical appearance as the breastplate found by the character in the "dungeons of Roakire", after fighting a pack of jackalweres. Both are black, and are depicted embossed in red with a woman's "haunted" face with long, flowing hair covering the front.[2]
Activities
Auric competed in three years' Champion's Games, in 593-595 CY. In 595, he fought as a member of "Auric's Warband", which included Auric, Khellek, and three flesh golems known as "the Leatherworks".
Relationships
Auric's most notable friendships are with Tirra and Khellek with whom he adventured and fought in the Champion's gAmes.
Loris Raknian positively abhors Aruic, to the point of trying to kill him in the Age of Worms adventure path. After Auric won the Champion's Games the second time, Raknian's paramour, Lahaka, formed something of a crush on him and spurned Raknian. Raknian murdered her in a rage, became paranoid and vengeful, and plotted to have Auric slain by an ulgurstasa at the high point of the Champion's Games in 595 CY, because he jealously blamed Auric.[1]
History

Auric was a member of the team who won the Champion's Games two years running, in 593 and 594 CY.

The ads "ran from october '81 to april '82 in magazines like Dragon or Epic illustrated."[5] The ads involved more than one adventuring party by different authors and artists over the course of the series, but those involving Auric were illustrated by Bill Willingham.
