James Sutter is a World of Greyhawk author.

Biography

"James L. Sutter is a writer and editor who worked in the RPG industry for 13 years, from 2004 till 2017.

He now is a full-time writer

James L. Sutter is a co-creator of the Pathfinder and Starfinder Roleplaying Games. From 2004 to 2017, he worked as an editor and developer for Paizo Publishing, starting on Dungeon Magazine, moving on to do foundational work for Pathfinder, and eventually becoming the Creative Director in charge of launching Starfinder, as well as the Executive Editor of the Pathfinder Tales novel line for Paizo and Tor/Macmillan. In 2017, he left Paizo to write full-time.

James is the author of the novels Death's Heretic—ranked #3 on Barnes & Noble's Best Fantasy Releases of 2011 and a finalist for the Compton Crook Award for Best First Novel—and The Redemption Engine, which won the 2015 Scribe Award for Best Original Speculative Novel. He's published short stories in such venues as Nightmare, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Apex Magazine, Escape Pod, and the #1 Amazon best-seller Machine of Death, as well as essays in Clarkesworld and Lightspeed: Queers Destroy Science Fiction. In addition, he's also written comics, a wealth of tabletop gaming material, and video games—most recently the Starfinder audio game for Amazon's Alexa, featuring Nathan Fillion and Laura Bailey.

When not writing or editing, James has performed with musical acts ranging from punk and metal bands to local theatrical productions of Star Wars. He lives in Seattle, in a house he shares with his wife and several friends."

Career

Sutter joined Paizo Inc. as an assistant editor on Dungeon magazine in 2003. In 2016 he was the co-creator of Pathfinder and Starfinder and serving as Starfinders original Creative Director .[1] He's written and edited numerous adventures and sourcebooks such as Starfinder Core Rulebook, Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, for which he did design work and expanding Baldur's Gate, City of Strangers and others. Sutter is the author of Death's Heretic and the The Redemption Engine. He has written a number of short stories that have appeared in Anthologies published by Baen and Chaosium, as well as writing novellas for the Paizo novel line. [2]

Sutter announced on Friday, September 8th, 2017 that he would be leaving Paizo after 13 years of working there. .[3] He now is a full-time writer. ,[4]
